What is a Health Coach?
A health coach is a supportive mentor who can guide you through behavioral changes, that will improve your quality of life by first improving your physical and mental health.
A coach educates, motivates, holds accountable, assists in the implementation of your health goals. While providing tools and feedback to help you overcome your barriers.
Through our partnership, we get to the root of your health issues to promote a better quality of life, improve overall health, and increase longevity. This holistic approach looks at how each system works, and how they interrelate, how to promote maximum healing.
Above all, I want you to know that I hold a framework for a safe, warm, comforting, space to lean into and learn about YOUR body. This space is held with no judgment for where you are now or where you have been in your health journey. Believe me, I have been there. I know how you feel. (I did not develop an autoimmune disease by having perfect health and lifestyle habits)
My motto is “When we know better we do better”, to quote Maya Angelou.
I would be honored to walk with you through your health journey.
Finding a coach that you can work with and that you feel comfortable with is very important. Especially with the nature of working with people who have a Chronic disease or illness. Working through some issues can be very personal at times, so you need to feel comfortable being able to open up and talk about your struggles.
The goal of Coaching is to help you overcome your struggles. So you have to feel like you can talk to your coach about your struggles.
A word on how I coach:
I have had clients that want me to literally be a drill sergeant trainer and yell and them when they do not meet their goals. I am not that person. If that is what you want? We would not be a good match.
My approach is gentler. As a previous educator, my desire is to help you be successful by learning new skills and building new habits to nourish your body. I will firmly, but gently hold you accountable for your goals. I will walk through the struggles with you and help you push past the barriers, then celebrate your wins. My wish for you is to learn to love your body and give it what it needs to heal, as our bodies are naturally designed to do so that you can live your best most fulfilling life.
How much does it cost?
There is a monetary investment and also a time investment required for coaching to be effective. The later is often overlooked, so I am going to talk about that one first. Just like an athletic coach, I can guide and instruct, and encourage all day, but I can not do the work for you.
Changing habits is hard.
Learning new skills is hard.
Ultimately, you are responsible for practicing and learning the skills. So you have to make space in your life and in your days to practice new skills.
At the end of time together you will have learned a set of skills that will not only help you in your present moment but also in the future. You will know how to manage your health like never before. You will have given yourself a great gift of knowing how to keep your body happy and healthy, throughout your life.
For the monetary investment, Hiring a health coach is similar in cost to hire a personal trainer. However, I do not charge by the hour. I offer programs that offer transformation. Because, if I charged by the hour people tend to just want to do coaching monthly, or here and there. That is not the type of program I offer.
Unlike a trainer I wear multiple hats, when you hire me we look at many different areas of life Together we look at mental and physical health to include: nutrition, cooking, shopping, movement, sleep, daily habits and how to hack them. How you handle stress, developing emotional resilience. We explore work-life balance, social life, friends family, financial health, finding Joy in everyday life, anything that is a barrier to your success. I tell people it is the difference between hiring a running coach or a track and field coach.
The programs offer ways to totally transform your health and your life. You will learn to change your habits and make lifestyles changes to improve your health. It is scientifically proven that it takes 90 days to create a lifestyle change. That is our goal. Therefore, I do not offer any programs for less than 90-day. All programs are renewable. I offer the 90 day program specifically for those who are a little hesitant to make a bigger time commitment or those who don’t have Chronic or Autoimmune issues.
The content of the coaching is also a highly customizable approach. If you renew a program you are not just taking the same thing twice. We set new goals and keep doing our work.
If you want to work with me but the programs listed do not seem like the right ones for you. Please, reach out to me I am always looking for a way to better serve you.
How do these dietary and lifestyle changes really help me?
They enable your body to get out of the fight or flight state and into rest and restore state and heal. Our bodies are designed to heal themselves if we give it the needed materials.
We systematically take out all the inflammatory-causing foods, chemicals, etc, and give your body nutrient-dense foods to heal you. We are basically bio-hacking your body. But is it not an easy hack.
Will I lose weight?
With the programs and work I do, the short answer is “yes”.
There is a BUT…
But the long answer is, I do not pitch this as a weight loss plan because that is not our focus and I disagree with a lot of traditional weight-loss philosophies. They are designed to motivate with shame and guilt and strict rules. I know. I tried all the diets and eating plans out there over the years as an athlete, and felt terrible about myself the whole time.
Diets don’t work for people who have chronic health issues and autoimmune issues. Traditional dieting culture prompts cutting calories and doing heavy exercise. Which can actually do more harm than good for individuals with chronic and autoimmune issues.
Our programs are designed to get your body balanced so all the systems work properly and for your body to feel nourished, not deprived. Simply put, when your mind and body are balanced your body will find its perfect weight. So if you are overweight that means you will lose weight. If you are underweight you will gain weight.
Personally, when I first tried an elimination diet, it was one of the first times I was not focused on weight. I was focused on eating healthy for my body, for my autoimmune disease and it was the first time in my life where the weight just melted off and I found my natural body weight. I even lost inflammation in my feet! Yes, I went down a size in shoes. Seriously!
How do I know it’s working?
This is a bit more individualized, everyone experiences improvement at different rates. Here are some of the things you can expect: more energy, better sleep, clearer thinking, feeling more emotionally resilient, handling stressful situations better, and improvement of anxiety and depression symptoms. You can look for improvement in the hair and skin, reducing circles under the eyes, less severe allergies, and a reduction in acne. As you start to lose inflammation in your body, you will experience fewer aches and pains which can reduce headaches and migraines.
Improved digestion is often one of the first things people notice. The ones everyone is happiest about is the weight loss and getting rid of the pain. The list goes on and on.
There are really so many things it is hard to say all of them The possibilities are endless. That being said I am also quick to tell you, or refer you to other health professionals if your symptoms fall beyond the scope of being helped by lifestyle and nutrition interventions.
Sometimes we need other therapies. I have a trusted group of practitioners that treat for hormonal imbalances and Endocrine issues like Hashimoto’s, or help you with physical modalities, like chiropractic, physical therapy, massage therapy, acupuncture, cupping, energy work, even therapy.
*Disclaimer-While I do work with doctors I am not a medical doctor and I can not advise you to reduce or discontinue any medications. That is a decision that you and your doctors must make. I say this because often people want to discontinue med’s when they start to feel better. Please check with your doctor first.
How do I get started?
First, take a look at my website and social media accounts. Do you like what you see? Do you think you would like to work with me? Are you willing to commit to habit and lifestyle changes? Are you willing to invest in learning some new success tools?
Step #1 To get started you should book an “Interview a Coach” call.
You can do that with this link: https://p.bttr.to/36jBH8L
This is a complimentary service.
When you book you will receive a short and a few forms to fill out.
The questionnaire is the basic info on you and what brings you to seek out my services.
The forms are HIPAA compliance and Telehealth forms to fill out same as when you go to your doctors' office. You will fill these out electronically.
*the APP I use is called Practice Better it is HIPAA compliant, so your information is safe and secure. Therefore you will be prompted to download the APP and create a password. Please remember your password. If you have trouble with this please reach out to me. This should not be a barrier.
A few words about this call: notice I do not call it a discovery call, or something like that. Why? Because I know if you are eating a Standard American Diet, that nutritional therapy can help you feel better without a doubt.
This is literally your time to get to know me, ask me questions about my programs? how I coach? determine if we are a good match? If so then we move to the next step.
A word about the importance of having a good coaching match: It is very important to have a coach you are comfortable with and who you feel you can trust and work with. Coaching can bring up some topics that may feel a little sticky or prickly, you need to feel comfortable enough to talk to your coach about these topics.
I have had clients that want me to literally be a drill sergeant trainer and yell and them when they do not meet their goals. I am not that person. If that is what you want we would not be a good match.
My approach is gentler. The previous educator in me wants to help you be successful by learning new skills. I will gently but firmly hold you accountable for your goals. I will walk through the struggles with you and help you get past the barriers. My wish for you is for you to learn to love your body and give it what it needs to support you to live your best life.
Step#2: Book an Initial Consultation
This step is a more involved step. You have a questionnaire to fill out about your health history, etc, you may need to gather some records from your doctors. This gives me a complete picture of what is going on with your body. It helps us formulate a plan on how to best go about healing your body.
We talk about goals and set a plan of action. Then if we both are in agreement we would enter into a coaching agreement. Meaning you pay for the coaching program, set your sessions up, set up your profile on Practice Better my customer portal and I set you with all the cool tools and apps to make you successful. Then we start our coaching sessions.
